Program Compatibility Assistant For Configuration Manager Agent Control Panel Item

A customer of mine had a problem with the Control Panel Applet for Configuration Manager.

The problem occurred when a user closed the applet, then the Program Compatibility Assistant would pop up asking the user if the control panel item had worked correctly. This only happened on the customers Windows 7 x86 machines where a Language Pack had been installed. At the same time this thread appeared in the TechNet Forum.

As you can see above, the error did occur on English versions of Windows 7 as well. Credit for this picture goes to the TechNet thread mentioned above.

After a case registered with the Microsoft Support they could flag this as a bug and hand it over to the dev team. In the mean time while we wait for a hotfix for this problem we can use a workaround.

Download this file and place it in the c:\windows\ccm folder, or where you’ve installed the agent.

Once the file is in place the error should go away directly. You might need to reboot the PC however.
